"Just Say No!" to the Bailout John McCain!

Before reading this, I want it understood, this is not the official position of www.letsgetthisright.com or anyone else, this is MY PERSONAL OPINION and does not represent my position as a staffer of www.letsgetthisright.com

American's need to stand up and tell John McCain to "Just Say No!"

If one reads just the title of the bill that was voted down yesterday it has absolutely nothing to do with the government’s attempted bail out to the tune of $700 Billion dollars. For those who are unaware here is the title of the "bailout bill"

BILL TITLE: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide earnings assistance and tax relief to members of the uniformed services, volunteer firefighters, and Peace Corps volunteers, and for other purposes

(what the hell... how can anyone make heads or tails of that title referencing a bailout bill???)

No American should be in favor of this bail out - you don't fix a temporary problem within a capitalist economy with a permanent socialist solution. Hell, even 95 democrats agreed yesterday that the bailout is the WRONG solution.

This is one of those occasions where I DO NOT support the President’s position!

President Bush, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Rahm Emanuel,  John Murtha, Charlie Rangel, and a host of other liberals are in favor of this ridiculous bill, the Republicans who supported it should be ashamed and do not represent true conservative values.

In my own personal opinion, if John McCain wants to have any hope of winning the White House and thereby help Sarah Palin as a potential future President, he should immediately separate his position from that of the President, Secretary Paulson, Senator Obama, as well as the Democrats and Republicans who support the bailout.

I like McCain, I like Palin and they are the ticket I am supporting, but the folks at the top of the campaign who are giving them advice need to hush, stop pushing a bad agenda, and listen to the voice of the American people on this one and let John McCain and Sarah Palin act accordingly.

Let us, "We The People" figure out how to get this right, by allowing us to participate in the general economy to fix it over time, the bailout bill is the equivalent of using morphine to cure a bad flu bug, the cure is not only the wrong prescription, it is more deadly than the illness itself.

John McCain needs to be the Maverick that many Americans like, respect and are comfortable voting for.

Senator John McCain should immediately come out and "Just Say No" to the bail out and suggest the following or something very similar to it;

1. Suspend the Mark-to-Market Rule - If short selling can be suspended on 799 stocks (an arbitrary number and a warning of the rule by bureaucrats which is coming under the Paulson plan), the mark-to-market rule can be suspended for six months and then replaced with a more accurate three year rolling average mark-to-market.

2. Repeal Sarbanes Oxley - It failed with Freddy Mac. It failed with Fannie Mae. It failed with Bear Stearns. It failed with Lehman Brothers. It failed with AIG. It is crippling our entrepreneurial economy. I spent three days this week in Silicon Valley. Everyone agreed Sarbanes-Oxley was crippling the economy. One firm told me they would bring more than 20 companies public in the next year if the law was repealed. Its Sarbanes-Oxley’s $3 million per startup annual accounting fee that is keeping these companies private.

3. Match our competitors in China and Singapore by going to a zero capital gains tax - Private capital will flood into Wall Street with zero capital gains and it will come at no cost to the taxpayer. Even if you believe in a static analytical model in which lower capital gains taxes mean lower revenues for the Treasury, a zero capital gains tax costs much less than the Paulson plan. And if you believe in a historic model (as I do), a zero capital gains tax would lead to a dramatic increase in federal revenue through a larger, more competitive and more prosperous economy.

4. Immediately pass an “all of the above” energy plan - that is designed to bring home $500 billion of the $700 billion a year we are sending overseas. With that much energy income the American economy would boom and government revenues would grow.

5. Immediately DEMAND investigations - of those responsible for directly influencing the current economic situation due to either direct action or inaction, be they captains of industry, lobbyists or politicians and as McCain would say "make them famous" and let the FBI, the Justice Dept. and the Federal Court systems follow up from there.

None of these suggestions are new, they are supported by Conservative politicians and business men like New Gingrich (who actually made those proposals on Sept. 21st - See Forbes Magazine and National Review Online from that date) and there are also plenty of "hip and trendy" socially left "pop culture icons" like Donald Trump who favor the concept of "Just Say No" as well.

There is NO REASON for John McCain to support a bailout bill that both George Bush and Barack Obama support and 83% to 86% of Americans on both sides DO NOT support!

John McCain MUST be on the RIGHT side of history on this bill, I say call and email the McCain campaign, and his Senate offices and tell them to tell John McCain to "Just Say No!"

The Mainstream Media; Give Credit Where Credit Is Due

The_fall_of_manSince the fall of man, life for all of us changed and I for one don't believe we should look at life through rose colored glasses, it just is not reality. As many joys as life offers it also at times presents us all with frustrating  opportunities and I believe that there is a higher reason for it. Through all of it we after forget ourselves in an attempt to recognize comedy in tragedy, sometimes during the tragedy itself but usually well after the danger and disastrous impact has passed.

Two days ago I wrote a Blog entitled "What Is Wrong With People Today?", it was about how openly indecent we have started to become when discussing the misfortune of others, and how we seem to have lost the spirit we all shared after the tragedy of 9/11.

(See link here) http://www.barnhartblog.com/barnhart_blog/2008/09/what-is-wrong-w.html

In the blog I recalled how one of the Austin, Texas morning radio shows, "JB & Sandy" had made light of a comment they had heard after hurricane Ike had hit the gulf coast. The comment was made by a man who saw comical irony in the tragedy of how his ex-wife's home had become flooded during the storm without much thought to her welfare or the impact it would have on her life.

It was because of this comical irony that the subject was brought up for all to hear and the staff giggled about it on air. In addition, I pointed out how the on air crew kept flippantly directing people to their website for more information as to how they could contact the Red Cross to donate to disaster relief for hurricane Ike. The problem was that when I went to the radio stations website, the link was seemingly buried under other advertising and links. To me the morning shows disregard for the victims of hurricane Ike was tacky. There was a better way to address the story of the ex-husband laughing about his ex-wife's misfortune.

IkeI can't explain why I, they or anyone else sometimes forget who we are on the inside and suddenly lose our compassionate thought for one another. Maybe it’s because we are suffering from information overload and traveling at warp speed so often in our daily lives that we forget our manners when we shouldn't. We miss opportunities to tell our family and friends how much we love them, we forget to give our pets attention, we stop smiling to people who pass us by at work or on the street and we even forget to say “please” and “thank you” as a common courtesy. Regardless, I do want to give credit where credit is due.

Jb_sandyThis morning I heard the same folks on the same show perform a really great public service announcement about the Capitol Area Food Bank here in Austin. The food bank has teamed with other local media outlets, H.E.B. grocery stores and others to organize a hurricane Ike food drive. In making the announcement the "JB & Sandy" morning show on MIX 94.7 did exactly what one would expect from a radio station PSA; they announced when, where and how people could help, they gave phone numbers, drop off locations, etc. The entire tone of the announcement and resulting brief conversation was on the mark. It reminded me of some of the great things that the folks at Mix 94.7 and others in the media do for our communities, especially during the holidays; they announce and encourage participation in “Turkey Trots”, blood drives, bike drives, Toys for Tots, Blue Santa, Brown Santa, Angel Trees, Special Olympics, the list goes on and on.

911 So, despite my blog the other day, and despite my normal distrust and dislike for the "drive-by media" there are some good folks out there, usually in our local radio, print and TV media and some who are on the national stage. It is worth remembering that at least some have covered everthing from Ike to Katrina, 9/11, and other news stories with honesty and integrity.

Just remember, as listeners it’s our job to help bring them back in line when they neglect or forget to treat their responsibility and the public trust with the respect it deserves. Likewise, it’s their job to help remind us of other people’s needs, our human frailty and even provide some us some much needed laughter each day.

Call it good will toward men, natural compassion, human kindness, the spirit of Christmas or the “after 9/11 experience”, there is a unique link that bind us all, it is an undeniable eternal bond. Because of it, the new media, (bloggers, pod casters, Internet radio hosts), along with the general public and the mainstream media will find times when we can, do, and should work hand in hand.

Should you want to donate to hurricane Ike, Gustav or Dolly disaster relief efforts, these links will get you to organizations that will appreciate your help.

When I wrote my blog the other day I was very hopeful that they would soon "rebound" from what I thought was a poorly chosen way to discuss hurricane Ike so I did nothing to encourage anyone to call or write them with any outrage. My wife and I listen to them enough to know that they have had their better moments, today is just another example of their true nature.

If you would like to send a kind note to JB & Sandy at Mix 94.7, read more about them, or thank them for what they do in the Austin, TX area they can be reached here.

9/11 My Exclusive Interview with Retired CIA Agent Michael Scheuer, The Osama bin Laden Task Force Leader

Michael_scheuer First, many thanks to former CIA Agent and head of the bin Laden task force, Michael Scheuer, for granting me an exclusive interview with him on the 7th anniversary of 9/11; especially since prior to the interview Michael had just completed a very full day of teaching two courses at a secure location, if he was exhausted, tired or drained in any way he indicated no signs of it on air.

He was, is, and always will be a very busy man, and the fact that he continues to teach, write, advise, and help others try and understand Islamic Jihad, its motivating factors, its leaders and how best to combat them is a testament to his patriotism.

Michael Scheuer was an outstanding, enthusiastic, and extremely informative guest. For those who did not have the opportunity to hear the interview, PLEASE listen to it in the archives on this website (see the far right column) of www.barnhartblog.com or by going to http://www.blogtalkradio.com/headingright/barnhartblog

Thanks to my loyal listeners, Blog readers and the new folks who visited the broadcast last night; the audience was more than double its normal size which I greatly appreciate.

Michael Scheuer's responses to the questions asked of him completely dispute the claims made by former President Bill Clinton, former Fist Lady now Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton,  former National Security Adviser Samuel Richard "Sandy" Berger, and Richard "Dick" Clarke the Chief Counter-terrorism Adviser to the National Security Council.

Michael Scheuer revealed that the actual number of opportunities to capture or kill Osama bin Laden priot 9/11 were many more than anyone has ever previously publicized, and he detailed the reasons for some of the worst decisions made by the Clinton White House and the tragic mistake made by CENTCOM (Central Command) under President Bush at Tora Bora.

Osamabinladen1998thumb Here are just some of the highlights of what we discussed...

Was 9/11 an inside job?

How many times did the Clinton administration "drop the ball" and decide not to capture or kill Osama bin Laden?

Were there financial interests that ever stopped us from capturing of killing Osama bin Laden?

How many opportunities did the Bush Administration have to capture or kill Osama bin Laden after 9/11 and why did they fail?

Is Osama bin Laden a crazy mad man and a lunatic or is he a cold calculating well educated idealist?

Is Osama bin Laden actually suffering from Diabetes, Kidney failure, or anything else that requires dialysis?

Which is better, capturing Osama bin Laden, or killing him and why?Can Barack Obama "invade" Pakistan to hunt for Osama bin Laden?

Where is Osama bin Laden now?

Why can't we kill Osama bin Laden at the moment?

If we were to kill Osama bin Laden how would could we best accomplish it?

What if anything is wrong with the Bush administration's policy of "Afghanistan First, Iraq Second?"

Was there any direct or indirect connection between 9/11 and Iraq or Iraq and Al-Qaeda?

Can the recently proposed "Quiet Surge" in Afghanistan work?

How much money does Osama bin Laden have access to?

Where does Osama bin Laden's money come from and how diversified is his income?

Why did he (Michael Scheuer) resign from the CIA in 2004?

Who is more dangerous to the United States, Al--Qaeda, Red China, Imperialist Russia, Shiite lead Iran, or Saudi Arabia and why?

Michael Scheuer has said "Senators Clinton, Obama and McCain are all "clueless" as to what motivates Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda but Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul get it" so we asked why is that a true statement?

In light of that statement and in light of Michael Scheuer writing papers for and appearing with Ron Paul who is he supporting for President?

Those were just a few of the issues covered with Michael Scheuer in my exclusive interview with him last night on the 7th anniversary of 9/11.

I ask that you listen to the interview, download it and then share it with your friends; what Michael Scheuer had to say was very revealing, informative, and enlightening. He has agreed to return in the future for a full two hours so this one hour interview was just the very tip of the iceberg but regardless, it should not be missed.

If you have any questions for Michael Scheuer I would be very happy to forward them to Michael and then report his response.

He then worked again as Special Advisor to the Chief of the Osama bin Laden unit from September 2001 to November 2004.

In his books and in many interviews he has detailed at least 10 cases where the Clinton administration refused to capture or kill Osama bin Laden when they had the ability to do so easily. Scheuer resigned in 2004 frustrated with both the Clinton and Bush administration's inability to either capture or kill Osama bin Laden prior to and after 9/11.

He is currently a news analyst for CBS News and a terrorism analyst for The Jamestown Foundation's online publication Global Terrorism Analysis. He also teaches a graduate-level course on Al-Qaeda at Georgetown University and participates in conferences on terrorism and national security issues, such as the New America Foundation's December 2004 conference, "Al Qaeda 2.0: Transnational Terrorism After 9/11."

"Through Our Enemies' Eyes: Osama Bin Laden, Radical Islam & the Future of America"

"Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror"

"Marching Towards Hell: America and Islam After Iraq."

Even Osama bin Laden commented on his last video tape sent to the US Government in 2007 “If you want to know why you are losing the war on terror read Michael Scheuer's book Imperial Hubris.”

Michael Scheuer is my very special guest tonight on the anniversary of 9/11 from 7pm to 9pm CST.

The call in number is 347-826-9560.

McCain Leads in the Polls; Obama Camp in Desperate Times

About 10 days ago I reported that the Obama camp was seeing their poll number slip to a 6% lead from what was at one point almost an 8% to a 9% lead. A little more than one week later and most polls have the race called as a dead heat and many have McCain up by 5% and the resulting desperation is showing in the Obama camp as they are starting to implode.

Here's how I came to that conclusion...

The announcement of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate sent shock waves through the Obama staff. They helped chose Delaware Senator Joe Biden to be Obama's running mate in order to help combat McCain's experience gap with Obama. In Joe Biden they had hoped to find an attack dog, an outspoken hawkish maverick that knows McCain well and could attack him with near impunity.

The problem is that McCain chose a younger, more vibrant, undaunted, as yet uncorrupted, successful middle-class Judea/Christian mother and Governor of the largest oil rich state to be his running mate. That choice in and of itself sent an aftershock through the Obama camp because it took away the large bounce that they expected after the Invesco Field speech where an estimated 85,000 people watched from the stands and another 35 million caught the spectacle on TV.

Since then Obama has taken a huge amount of heat for not selecting Senator Hillary Clinton to be his running mate, essentially leaving a gap in party loyalty, and many in the press questioning if the wheels have come off the Obama train.

In recent days numerous reporters, 527 groups, union investigators, private investigators, reporters and political operatives have landed in Alaska searching for a needle in a haystack, wanting to find that one damning piece of evidence to shoot Palin down in flames.

The problem is that the McCain camp has done their homework and vetted her very well. They knew about her husband’s DUI 20 years ago, they knew about her support of "Jews for Jesus", her attendance of an Evangelical Assembly of God Church, her Down Syndrome son, her 5 children, her union membership, her eldest daughters teen pregnancy, the firing of her brother in law who as a law enforcement officer was caught drunk on the job, her canceling the bridge to nowhere, the scandalous rumors of an alleged affair, her NRA membership, her outspoken nature, her beauty queen good looks, etc. etc. They knew it all, good and bad, true and untrue.

To make matters worse, Obama went on Fox News and was interviewed by Bill O'Reilly and did not hold his own. He was swiftly shredded by O'Reilly in regards to Iraq, Homeland Security, taxes, his associations with Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers and others.

Worse still Obama proceeded to make these statements about the McCain / Palin ticket "You can put lipstick on a pig, It's still a pig; you can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink."Those statements have caused a huge backlash as Obama is seen as losing his grip and practicing a rude brand of politics he swore he would avoid.

His frustration, desperation and anger is showing and growing rapidly and here is the latest...

A neurologist from Mt. Sinai Hospital is questioning Joe Biden's ability to serve as VP due to his two previous bran aneurysms, stating that it can cause dementia, fits of anger, loss of deductive reasoning, problems with motor functions etc. Some are suggesting that Biden should voluntarily leave the ticket and that Hillary Clinton replace him due to medical reasons.

In my opinion the interview with both candidates conducted at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church started the beginning of the McCain revolution but no matter whether it was his straight forward answers, his selection of Palin, her acceptance speech, or his that eclipsed Obama's by 500,000 viewers, for now the Straight Talk Express has the upper hand; I just hope the momentum continues.

Matthews and Olbermann Replaced by David Gregory

This article is from the NY times and includes areas highlighted on The Liberty Lounge.

(Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.

“The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what’s supposed to be straight news programming,” said Davidson Goldin, formerly the editorial director of (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) and a co-founder of the reputation management firm DolceGoldin.

Executives at the channel’s parent company, NBC Universal, had high hopes for MSNBC’s coverage of the political conventions. Instead, the coverage frequently descended into on-air squabbles between the anchors, embarrassing some workers at NBC’s news division, and quite possibly alienating viewers. Although (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) nearly doubled its total audience compared with the 2004 conventions, its competitive position did not improve, as it remained in last place among the broadcast and cable news networks. In prime time, the channel averaged 2.2 million viewers during the Democratic convention and 1.7 million viewers during the Republican convention.

The success of the Fox News Channel in the past decade along with the growth of political blogs have convinced many media companies that provocative commentary attracts viewers and lures Web browsers more than straight news delivered dispassionately.

“In a rapidly changing media environment, this is the great philosophical debate,” Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, said in a telephone interview Saturday. Fighting the ratings game, he added, “the bottom line is that we’re experiencing incredible success.”

But as the past two weeks have shown, that success has a downside. When the vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lamented media bias during her speech, attendees of the Republican convention loudly chanted “NBC.”

In interviews, 10 current and former staff members said that long-simmering tensions between (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) and NBC reached a boiling point during the conventions. “MSNBC is behaving like a heroin addict,” one senior staff member observed. “They’re living from fix to fix and swearing they’ll go into rehab the next week.”

The employee, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity because the network does not permit it people to speak to the media without authorization. (The New York Times and NBC News have a content-sharing arrangement exclusively for political coverage.)

Mr. Olbermann, a 49-year-old former sportscaster, has become the face of the more aggressive MSNBC, and the lightning rod for much of the criticism. His program “Countdown,” now a liberal institution, was created by Mr. Olbermann in 2003 but it found its voice in his gnawing dissent regarding the Bush administration, often in the form of “special comment” segments.

As Mr. Olbermann raised his voice, his ratings rose as well, and he now reaches more than one million viewers a night, a higher television rating than any other show in the troubled 12-year history of the network. As a result, his identity largely defines MSNBC. “They have banked the entirety of the network on Keith Olbermann,” one employee said.

In January, Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews, the host of “Hardball,” began co-anchoring primary night coverage, drawing an audience that enjoyed the pair’s “SportsCenter”-style show. While some critics argued that the assignment was akin to having the Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly anchor on election night — something that has never happened — (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) insisted that Mr. Olbermann knew the difference between news and commentary.

But in the past two weeks, that line has been blurred. On the final night of the Republican convention, after (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) televised the party’s video “tribute to the victims of 9/11,” including graphic footage of the World Trade Center attacks, Mr. Olbermann abruptly took off his journalistic hat.

“I’m sorry, it’s necessary to say this,” he began. After saying that the video had exploited the memories of the dead, he directly apologized to viewers who were offended. Then, sounding like a network executive, he said it was “probably not appropriate to be shown.”

In an interview on Sunday, Mr. Olbermann said that moment — and the perception that he is “not utterly neutral” — restarted months-old conversations about his role on political nights.

“I found it ironic and instructive that I could have easily said exactly what I did say, exactly when I did say it, if I had been wearing a different hat, and nobody would have taken any issue,” he said.

“Countdown” will still be shown before the three fall debates and a second edition will be shown sometime afterwards, following the program anchored by Mr. Gregory.

The change casts new doubt on what some staff members believe is an effective programming strategy: prime-time talk of a liberal sort. A like-minded talk show will now follow “Countdown” at 9 p.m.: “The Rachel Maddow Show,” hosted by the liberal radio host, begins Monday.

Mr. Griffin, MSNBC’s president, denies that it has an ideology. “I think ideology means we think one way, and we don’t,” he said. Rather than label MSNBC’s prime time as left-leaning, he says it has passion and point of view.

But (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) is the cable arm of NBC News, the dispassionate news division of NBC Universal. MSNBC, “Today” and “NBC Nightly News” share some staff members, workspace and content. And some critics are claiming they also share a political affiliation.

The McCain campaign has filed letters of complaint to the news division about its coverage and openly tied (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) to it. Tension between the network and the campaign hit an apex the day Mr. McCain announced Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) had reported Friday morning that Ms. Palin’s plane was enroute to the announcement and she was likely the pick. But McCain campaign officials warned the network off, with one official going so far as to say that all of the candidates on the short list were on their way — which (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) then reported.

“The fact that it was reported in real time was very embarrassing,” said a senior (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) official. “We were told, ‘No, it’s not Sarah Palin and you don’t know who it is.’ ”

Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams, the past and present anchors of “NBC Nightly News,” have told friends and colleagues that they are finding it tougher and tougher to defend the cable arm of the news division, even while they anchored daytime hours of convention coverage on (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) and contributed commentary each evening.

Mr. Williams did not respond to a request for comment and Mr. Brokaw declined to comment. At a panel discussion in Denver, Mr. Brokaw acknowledged that Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews had “gone too far” at times, but emphasized they were “not the only voices” on MSNBC, according to The Washington Post.

Al Hunt, the executive Washington bureau chief of Bloomberg News, said that the entire news division was being singled out by Republicans because of the work of partisans like Mr. Olbermann. “To go and tar the whole news network and Brokaw and Mitchell is grossly unfair,” he said, referring to the NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell.

Some tensions have spilled out on-screen. On the first night in Denver, as the fellow (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) host Joe Scarborough talked about the resurgence of the McCain campaign, Mr. Olbermann dismissed it by saying: “Jesus, Joe, why don’t you get a shovel?”

The following night, Mr. Olbermann and his co-anchor for convention coverage, Mr. Matthews, had their own squabble after Mr. Olbermann observed that Mr. Matthews had talked too long.

Some staff members said the tension led to the network’s decision to keep Mr. Olbermann in New York for the Republican convention, after he ran the desk in Denver during the Democratic convention. (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) said that he stayed in New York to anchor coverage of Hurricane Gustav. But some workers say there were other reasons — namely, that Mr. Olbermann was concerned about his safety in St. Paul, given the loud crowds at MSNBC’s set in Denver.

NBC Universal executives are also known to be concerned about the perception that MSNBC’s partisan tilt in prime time is bleeding into the rest of the programming day. On a recent Friday afternoon, a graphic labeled “Breaking News” asked: “How many houses does Palin add to the Republican ticket?” Mr. Griffin called the graphic “an embarrassment.”

According to three staff members, Jeff Zucker, chief executive of NBC Universal, and Steve Capus, president of NBC News, considered flying to the Republican convention in Minnesota last week to address the lingering tensions.

Up to now, the company’s public support for MSNBC’s strategy has been enthusiastic. At an anniversary party for Mr. Olbermann in April, Mr. Zucker called “Countdown” “one of the signature brands of the entire company.”

Just last year, Mr. Olbermann signed a four-year, $4-million-a-year contract with MSNBC. NBC is close to supplementing that contract with Mr. Olbermann, extending his deal through 2013 — and ensuring that he will be on (Mostly Not Broadcasting Conservatives Network) through the next election.

Obama-Rama and Group Think

If you are one of the millions who watched the "Obama-Rama" last night and are not an Obamacon or an Obamanite then perhaps you, like me, were wondering where is the beef, the meat in the speech, the "how" and not just the "what."

What Obama tried to do last night was juggle jell-o and mold smoke but you are not supposed to notice that because the Hollywood style production and the fervor of the huge "group think" production that was put on is supposed to lull your brain to sleep so you accept what his is selling.

People have wondered why Barack Obama wanted to use Invesco field for his speech... the answer is simple. It is an effort to push a "group think" agenda to "get things done" by getting everyone in a large audience to "feel good" without really knowing why.

The "wise Earth" group thinkers are subtle in many ways, but the results of their behavior are ultimately destructive. As Ronald Reagan said "waving the flag while jumping off a cliff is still jumping off a cliff."Marxists, Socialists and Liberals like using group think to persuade others to follow them down a "feel good" path of destruction. Group think can lead to some very extreme situations.

In the last 100 years history provides multiple examples that resulted in serious consequences for those who opposed some very radical group think idealists; the thoughts and actions of Vladimir Lenin, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Idi Amin Dada, Ayatollah Khomenei, Robert Mugabe, "Baby Doc" Jean-Claude Duvalier, all resulted in the deaths of multiple millions of people.

Once people start digging deeper into the lives and beliefs of people who have impacted Barack Obama they will discover that many of his friends and idols believe that group think is a good thing because it allows for constant control of a 100% man-made grand design for change.

The group thinkers that have influenced or impacted the life of Barack Obama include but are not limited to William Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Frank Marshall Davis, Saul Alinsky, Jeremiah Wright, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and many others not named here are all heavily idolized by Barack Obama for their revolutionary ideas for change.

The term "group think" was coined by social psychologist Irving Janis in 1972. It occurs when a group makes faulty decisions because group pressures lead to a deterioration of “mental efficiency, reality testing, and moral judgment."

Groups affected by "group think" ignore alternatives and tend to take irrational actions that dehumanize other groups.

A group is especially vulnerable to groupthink when its members are similar in background, when the group is insulated from outside opinions, and when there are no clear rules for decision making.

The negative outcomes of "group think" include:

Examining few alternatives Not being critical of each other's ideas

Not examining early alternatives Not seeking expert opinion

Being highly selective in gathering information Not having contingency plans

Irving Janis documented eight symptoms of group think:

1. Illusion of invulnerability - Creates excessive optimism that encourages taking extreme risks.

2. Collective rationalization – Members discount warnings and do not reconsider their assumptions.

3. Belief in inherent morality – Members believe in the rightness of their cause and therefore ignore the ethical or moral consequences of their decisions.

4. Stereotyped views of out-groups – Negative views of “enemy” make effective responses to conflict seem unnecessary.

5. Direct pressure on dissenters – Members are under pressure not to express arguments against any of the group’s views.

6. Self-censorship – Doubts and deviations from the perceived group consensus are not expressed.

7. Illusion of unanimity – The majority view and judgments are assumed to be unanimous.

8. Self-appointed ‘mind guards’ – Members protect the group and the leader from information that is problematic or contradictory to the group’s cohesiveness, view, and, or decisions.

Examples of "group think fiascoes” studied by Irving Janis in America include US failures to anticipate the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Bay of Pigs invasion, the escalation of Vietnam war, and the ill-fated hostage rescue in Iran.

In order to avoid a "group think" disaster in Iraq, the Bush administration finally went outside the lines and consulted those who don't fall prey to group think and the "surge plan" was the result.

So please, remind me again which candidate for President supported the surge?

It was the same guy who confirmed his maverick status, went way outside the lines, reached out to conservative voters, gun owners, evangelical Christians, supporters of Israel, Reagan Democrats, "Drill Here/Drill Now  voters", and Hillary voters by making a very non-group think choice for VP by choosing Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska... that man's name is Senator John McCain.

The Audacity of Obama; Michelle Obama and "Tax Milk"

A month ago I began a Blog series called "The Audacity of Obama" each Blog covers a different aspect of him, his associations, etc. After the speech provided by his wife last night I though now was a great time to revive it and continue the series, this time all about her.

During last night's speech and as she traveled with the "Dali-Bama" this year Michelle has claimed over and over to have come from a down trodden neighborhood on the South side of Chicago, essentially the same are described in Jim Croce's 1973 recording hit "Bad Bad Leroy Brown." In the song Croce called it "the badest part of town." Truth be told, at least where Mrs. Obama grew up, wasn't. It was and is a well taken care of area with nice craftsman style red-brick homes that in no way resemble what she describes. So either she is lying or she does not remember her "middle-class" neighborhood with much fondness.

Her father was a middle-class guy with a $42,000 a year job at the water treatment facility, so she didn't come from poverty. She was by all accounts a smart, diligent student and was taking college level courses at an early age. Because of her grades and work ethic she was able to take special classes for talented and gifted students at a magnet school which helped her gain entry into Princeton where she graduated cumlaude 4 years later in 1985. Once she had graduated with honors it was only a matter of time before she was accepted to Harvard Law school, not bad for someone from a "bad neighborhood" on the south side of Chicago.

Stated plainly, her parents were devoted to their kids and pushed studies, middle-class values and hard work over television, and socializing with riff-raff, etc. Don't know about you but it doesn't sound like a bad life so far... just strict. So, is she lying and painting a poorer picture for impact, or does she genuinely remember things worse than they were?

If you ask me, she should be advocating this type of responsible behavior instead of pushing nanny-state politics on a new generations of people. Yet in numerous interviews with Newsweek, CNN, and others she has credited affirmative action for her making it, not her parents hard work, their dedication and her good grades. I don't get it, why credit the government for something she and her parents worked so hard for?

If she were to say that affirmative action was a "help to her" if and or when she was up against prejudice at college or in the job market, I could understand it, that is what it is supposed to do in my opinion. Instead it is used to dictate quotas when candidates are on par with one another. That would mean, using her logic, that she was a "token black" and I think discredits her accomplishments.

I don't like her because she gives credit where it is not due (the government) instead or shouting from the rooftops "look where hard work and good parental support got me, you can do it too." Instead she helps preach a message of government dependence and then also accepts "gratuities" from others due to her husband's status; like when the hospital she worked for doubled her salary some 260% when Obama was sworn in as a US Senator; how many of us would like to see our salary jump like that when it comes time for our yearly review?

Then there is the Rezko land deal, the campaign funds provided by donors with terrorist ties, the associations and friendships with William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, etc. Did I forget to mention the over $1,000,000.00 earmark that the "Dali-Bama" advocated for the hospital where she worked? Those are your tax dollars! Did I also forget to mention the exceedingly over advantageous home loan the Obama's received from Illinois Northern Trust when buying a multi-million dollar home on his Freshman US Senate salary?

The Obama's received a 5.625 percent loan on their 30-year fixed-rate mortgage of a $1,620,000.00 Georgian style fully restored mansion in an upscale Chicago neighborhood. It is what is called a "super super jumbo" there are no origination fees, penalties, discount points etc. Over the life of the loan they will save a minimum of at least $150,000.00. Folks this isn't just "sound investing" it is a sweetheart deal that most people could only dream of. All on his $165,000.00 a year salary. Remember this is before the book deals, her salary increase, the over 3 million dollars in investments back at Illinois Northern Trust, and so on.

The Obama's are not an average, everyday couple, they are not change agents, they do not represent a difference in Washington. They are a "power couple" who have rapidly learned that politics is vehicle to immediate wealth and power.

According to an NBC's Jim Popkin in an article dated March 25, 2008 "Their tax returns recently revealed that in 2000 their combined income was $240,505. That includes Sen. Obama's salary as a young state senator in Illinois, his fees ($16,500) as a "foundation director/educational speaker" and Michelle Obama's salary as a hospital administrator."

"In 2006, by contrast, the Obama’s' combined income was $983,826. Obama had become a U.S. Senator by then, making about $165,000 a year, and his wife's income at the University of Chicago hospitals had climbed sharply to about $265,000 a year. Sen. Obama's book-writing career also had become profitable, earning him $551,240 in author fees in tax year 2006 alone. Mrs. Obama also made $51,200 that year, as director of TreeHouse Foods, "a food manufacturer servicing primarily the retail grocery and food service chains," according to the company's website."

"The Obama’s' best financial year came in 2005, when their total combined income was $1.6 million. That included $1.2 million in author fees for Sen. Obama's best-selling books. Michelle Obama's salary that year was $316,962 plus another $45,000 for her role as director of TreeHouse Foods.

The Obama’s became more charitable as their incomes grew. In 2000, the couple gave $2,350 to charity, or about 1 percent of their gross income. In 2006, they donated $60,307 to charities, or about 6 percent of their gross income. In 2005, the Obama’s list a $5,000 donation to their church, Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the controversial Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., was Sen. Obama's pastor. If Sen. Obama tithed more regularly to the church, there's no record of it in these tax returns."

What this indicates is that as they increased their political muscle after his now famous speech at the DNC in 2004 the Obama's latched onto "Uncle Sam's breast" and started feeding on government "tax milk." Her salary was doubled, and the hospital receives over one million dollars in earmarks; his home loan receives preferential treatment, and once it does he then in return votes in favor of the home loan bailout bill… it is a tit for tat game they are playing... and it is WRONG!

Remember Hillary Clinton's little stock deal that earned her $100,000.00... well Obama is headed in the same direction.

In their front page investigative must-read, Mike McIntire and Christopher Drew of the New York Times report: "Less than two months after ascending to the United States Senate, Barack Obama bought more than $50,000 worth of stock in two speculative companies whose major investors included some of his biggest political donors."

That is not change... that is politics as usual!

Michelle Obama could let her hard work and parents diligence speak for her and demonstrate her conscience of character instead of her greed and dependence on the government for success, but she chooses not to. Instead she is reaping the benefits of her husband's success and together they have started to siphon "tax milk" from the American people.

No good conservative will ever tell you that they are against free enterprise, capitalism or making money. Goodness knows we all want to make more than we do but there is a right way and a wrong way to do it.

I do NOT care how many houses the McCain's or the Obama's own, or how many investments and business ventures they get into to make an honest dollar... as long as they did not use their influence to obtain sweetheart deals or provide a quid-pro-quo to someone in exchange for the benefits of the ventures they get into.

Most important of all, don't start teaching the young people of American that the right way to be successful is by stepping on your neighbor, circumventing the law, making shady deals in a back room or having Uncle Sam (you and me) foot the bill for you.

Michelle Obama could have chosen to be a proud example of what is able to be accomplished in America the right way; instead, Michelle Obama represents the very worst of socialist "tax milkers."

Carville Says Democrats Wasted Everyone's Time

The Democrats claim to have the momentum. Bush's approval ratings are down, the war in Iraq has slowed but is still ongoing, gas prices are coming down but are still higher than American's would like, they have a majority in the Senate, the House, and they have a very popular dream candidate, a politician, rock star and potential Messiah wrapped in a nice neat little package... so with all that going for them, leave it to the Democrats to once more snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Last night's DNC convention was terrible. The speeches were flat, the sound was bad, the crowd was less than enthusiastic, the transitions were not smooth, James Carville declared it a "wasted first night" on CNN and even Michelle Obama herself, the celebrated speaker mispronounced her husband’s last name.

For me the classic part came when she had to "sniff back a boog" on national TV, when I saw that I almost fell out of my chair. I am not sure how many people caught it but it took place when "The Dali-Bama" appeared on screen to talk to her, his kids and the convention attendees. Perhaps John Stewart or Colbert will replay it on Comedy Central but the one thing everyone can see again is James Carville declaring the 1st night a waste, the video of it is available all over the web.

In his own words from CNN's Political Ticker... "The way they planned it tonight was supposed to be sort of the personal [side] Michelle Obama will talk about Barack Obama personally, Ted Kennedy was a very personal, emotional speech, but I guarantee on the first night of the Republican Convention, you're going to hear talk about Barack Obama, commander-in-chief, tax cuts, et cetera, et cetera."

"You haven't heard about Iraq or John McCain or George W. Bush, I haven't heard any of this. We are a country that is in a borderline recession, we are an 80 percent wrong-track country. Health care, energy, I haven't heard anything about gas prices, maybe we are going to look better Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but right now, we're playing hide the message."

“If this party has a message it's done a hell of a job hiding it tonight, I promise you that."

Frankly James... that's why I don't waste my time watching the Democrats and instead have fun picking up the pieces the day after they flub it up. I'll give credit where credit is due, I recall watching the DNC when Clinton made his first run against Bush the elder and I commented to those in the room "there is the next President, it's over." Not because I liked Clinton mind you, but the DNC put on one hell of a show for the TV audience and perceptions matter. On that one night, for them, everything came together, and Bush the elder's "No new Taxes!" pledge that he broke (right or wrong) was beaten to death by the Dems all the way to the White House. It was smart politics.

The group of "socialist squirrels" running the DNC convention this year can't even manage to be "on message" not that they really have one to begin with. Their House Speaker is an amateur, their Senate Majority Leader is an amateur, and their candidate is an amateur... so for me the bottom line is this... the convention was obviously put together by amateurs... if Hillary Clinton doesn't come out and save the night for them and provide the "unity pony" they need, the Democrats are toast.

Obama Campaign Removes His Certificate of Birth from Website

Barack Obama's "Fight The Smears" website has now taken down and removed the "proof" of his Certificate of Birth that was supposedly from Honolulu, Hawaii.

Why?

Perhaps it is because when people started asking questions on the left and not just on the right the story took on a life of its own. Now with the lawsuit filed by Philip J. Berg in Pennsylvania the campaign has no choice but to come up with clear evidentiary proof of his Jus Sanguinis "Right of blood" that proves once and for all that Barack Obama is a US Citizen.

At issue is whether or not his mother Ann Dunham gave birth to Obama in the US in Hawaii, or whether or not his mother had him in Indonesia, Kenya or on some island off the Canadian coastline near Seattle and if so, did she file the required paperwork with the nearest US consulates office to certify him as her son and as a US citizen as required by law.

As I said on my last Blog and on the radio program the stories that abound about his birth and even Obama himself does not provide clear answers about it in his book. Each side of his family provide a different version of the story as well.

Regardless, whether the rumors that exist are true or not, because of the lawsuit filed yesterday, his campaign now has no choice but to resolve the issue before is destroys his candidacy.

Just as curious is the exact reason why they would remove a document that they have had on his "Fight the Smears" website for months.

Stay tuned... this story seems to have legs and it might just be the ace in the hole Hillar clinton was waiting for and why she only suspended her campaign and didn't fold her tent completely.

UPDATE - the certificate is once again back up on the site - http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/birthcert

Lawsuit Filed Against Barack Obama - Is Barack Obama a US Citizen?

On last night's John Barnhart Show otherwise known as "The Lion's Den" on Blog Talk Radio we discussed the issue of Barack Obama's certificate of live birth and whether or not he meets the basic minimum requirements to be a Presidential nominee. The discussion was HOT on the telephone to say the least and was very timely.

For those who missed my radio show last night it is available on my website on the archives to the right or you can link to the show by going to www.blogtalkradio.com/stations/HeadingRight/BarnhartBlog

First, let me start off by saying that this is an issue in which there should be no question, and no discussion, it should be completely cut and dry, but it's not.

Just like many other things in the life of this candidate the stories surrounding his birth are as varied as the numerous many nicknames that I and hundreds of other radio talk show hosts and Bloggers have come up with for him.

"Dark Vader", "Czarbama", "Barack Millhouse NObama", "The Obamessiah", the "Dali Bama", "The One - The One", "Duh-bama", "Barack Snow-me-one-baloney" take your pick or create your own, eventually you will get the picture... even in his own books the candidate is not 100% completely crystal clear on his own origin and all the speculation, rumors, conspiracy theories and the lack of proof defining the real truth about him and his birth right to US or other citizenship has lead to a ton of controversy.

As for the timely manner of the show, listeners to my show and readers of my Blog should read this... Papers were indeed filed late yesterday in Federal Court and the complaint is asking for the court to declare that Barack Hussein Obama is not a US citizen, not a “natural born” citizen and not eligible under the qualifications of the US Constitution to run for the office of President of the United States.

In addition the filing is asking for an expedited discovery process and an injunction that would prevent him from accepting the nomination or from the process of the nomination going forward until if, and or when Barack Hussein Obama provide a certified copy of his Birth Certificate, and if or when he supply a copy of the oath he took to regain his citizenship.

It is worth noting that Obama still holds citizenship in Kenya by what are called "Jus Sanguinis" and "Jus Soli" which is to say "Right of Blood" and "Right of Soil" because his father was a citizen of Kenya and Obama has never renounced that right.

The plaintiff Phillip J. Berg is asking that the state of Hawaii release any and all birth records regarding Obama. Berg was at the courthouse late yesterday filing the complaint and it was completed at 4:45pm EST just 15 minutes before the clerk’s office closed.

The story was originally leaked by well-known and sometimes very controversial Clinton Blogger Larry Sinclair, upon hearing that he was the one who broke the story I hopped on my cellular phone and called the court to verify it.

I reached a court employee by the name of Steven Tomas who stated the following; "Yes it was filed, I did not read it but I am the one who signed it and yes it did have something to do with Barack Obama and his citizenship… that much I do know." Tomas further verified that "the judge will not be in to look at everything until a little later but yes it was filed and should be available to the public sometime around 12 noon EST once it is scanned in."

Below are the basic details of the filing:

Case #08-CV-4083

Plaintiff: PHILIP J. BERG Defendant: BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, a/k/a BARRY SOETORO, a/k/a BARRY OBAMA , a/k/a BARACK DUNHAM, a/k/a BARRY DUNHAM THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE, THE FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION AND DOES 1-50 INCLUSIVE

US District Court, Eastern District of PA 601 Market Street Philadelphia, PA 19106-1797 Ph: 215-597-7704

So now the question is for some... exactly who is Philip J. Berg?

Well, the answer seems to be clear... he is NOT a McCain operative... he is however a supporter of Hillary Clinton's.

The suit was not filed by the campaign itself but the timing and motivation of it being filed by a supporter prior to the Democrat convention in Denver is blatantly obvious; especially when so many Democrats are still declaring that they are "still waiting for their unity pony."

As for Berg, he is no friend of Republicans and he is certainly not a conservative.

Philip J. Berg is a former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania; former candidate for Governor and U.S. Senate; an attorney with offices in Montgomery County, PA and still has an active practice in Philadelphia, PA. He is very well known for his filing of a 9/11 related lawsuit against President Bush and he asked "world leaders" to arrest President Bush and Vice-President Cheney for "global crimes against humanity" in connection with the terror attacks on 9/11.

Whether the guy is a "leftist wing-nut" is not in doubt, but he obviously knows enough about the law to tie up the courts, raise hell and make people's lives miserable for a while and there is no doubt in my mind that this is one of many "shots across the bow" of the sinking ship that is the "USS NObama" by Hillary Clinton or her supporters.

For anyone who wonders why there is a controversy regarding Barack Obama's birth right, place of birth or records of his birth in the first place... take a look at this document which is supposedly a certified copy, of his 1961 Certificate of Live Birth and is available on his own campaign website.

When you do, ask yourself these questions...

1. If it is real then why does it look "perfect" by 2008 computer standards instead of a document from 1961 that would have to be typed on a typewriter from that era?

2. If it is real then why does Obama claim that his mother was pregnant with him in November of 1960, which would be ten months before his birth?

3. If it is real then why was there so much confusion over what birthday he recently celebrated... some of his relatives said it was his 43rd, others said 45th still others said 47th?

4. Why has not one person from Hawaii come forward from the hospital to verify the event with documents in hand?

5. Why has the Obama campaign not put this to rest before now?

6. Where is the seal that certifies the certificate as real?

7. Why, since this is supposedly a public record, is the certificate number redacted by the Obama campaign on their "Fight the Smears" website?

8. Why was the candidate in Hawaii for two weeks on "vacation?"

To view a larger version you can link to the document here http://www.theobamafile.com/_images/ObamaBirthCertificate.jpg

McCain vs. Obama at Saddleback

BarackobamaetajohnmccainizandiragarTonight on "The John Barnhart Show" also known as "The Lion's Den" on the "Heading Right" radio channel of Blog Talk Radio, I will finally provide my own commentary on the McCain vs. Obama Q and A session conducted by Rick Warren at Saddleback Church last weekend.

The show will air from 7pm to 9pm CST, 8pm to 10pm EST callers are welcome to join in the conversation as we compare the responses of the two candidates to off the cuff questions, with none of the standard debate interruptions or the typical teleprompter assistance.

For anyone who missed the program on CNN, this review on my show is a MUST!

It will be just the candidates, Rick Warren, the crowd, and me. Expect some very biting but thoughtful commentary as I expose their responses to the light of common sense.

Not only will listeners obtain an interesting perspective by listening instead of watching the candidates give their responses, they will likely discover a few jewels of wit and wisdom from the candidates, Rick Warren, the crowd and of course the commentator (yours truly) along the way.

The direct link to my radio show is www.blogtalkradio.com/stations/HeadingRight/BarnhartBlog

Please join me, you will thank yourself later!

Call to Join GrassFire.org Petition for Drilling

I received an email yesterday afternoon from www.grassfire.org and would appreciate it if my readers and listeners would take the time to read my edit of the message and then sign the associated petition. Gas prices may be headed down slightly, but it will not last as long as we are dependent on foreign sources of petroleum.

This is an issue that conservatives can win on in November and use to help push the Republican Party back to the right and away from the left. I strongly assert that we can ill afford to hand over this election to the Socialist Squirrels posing as Democrats on the left, and we also must not hand this issue or the party platform over to "Nelson Rockefeller Republicans."

It is past time that we bring the ideals of Goldwater and Reagan back to the to the party and to the American people.

Over the weekend Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced that she would not "rule out" allowing a vote on drilling offshore. She is under very immense pressure to bend her will and call congress back into session, but to date she is reluctant to do so because she wants to have the energy and "green initiative" issues to use at the Democrat National Convention so Libtards like her can push the country towards a unified "one world" Socialist agenda.

Nancy Pelosi's announcement stated that she was willing to allow a vote on comprehensive energy legislation to bring more domestic oil to the American people. When the floor protest began over two weeks ago, Speaker Pelosi said Republicans would have to "use their imagination" to get a vote on more domestic drilling. By last week she apparently had changed her position, telling a national television audience for the first time that Congress 'can have a vote' on more domestic drilling. On Saturday in a national radio address, Speaker Pelosi went on to say that the Democrats plan will consider opening portions of the Outer Continental Shelf for drilling.

Sadly her comments do not go far enough, there was no mention of ANWR, complete American energy independence, or her refusal to come back to work for the people and get things done the right way. Pelosi's sudden change in attitude is a result of grassroots Americans taking persistent action as well as I think, the complete failure of her book tour and the sudden stumbles by Barack Obama and his falling poll numbers.

Grassfire.org team members are blitzing House Democrats with tens of thousands of phone calls, faxes and emails demanding action, and it is working!

Every day, we are delivering new petitions to Nancy Pelosi and key democrats demanding action, and I'd like the opportunity to represent you on this most important issue. Please join the more than 262,825 Americans who have already taken action.

Folks, if you are reading this and you have yet to call, write, fax, or otherwise sign any petitions online to either "call back congress", "drill here - drill now - pay less" or sign up to join the "grassfire" call for congress to lift the drilling ban then do so NOW and tell the rascals in Washington DC to get back to business

Please share in this experience simply by clicking here, and signing the grassfire.org petition to lift the drilling ban.
